When we think about doors, it’s common for exterior ones to be the first ones to pop into our head. Be it a front door or a patio door, people are always concerned with how they’ll look as it represents a certain image for those viewing your home from the outside. When it comes to internal doors, it’s just as crucial that they look good as these doors divide the rooms within your household, so you’ll want them to blend in and fit with everything else. How do you decide on the best internal doors for you and your home?
With so much variety, the price of doors is never a fixed thing. It’s largely dependent on the style and material of the door, with some options being substantially pricier than others. The difference in price isn’t always just for cosmetic purposes, some doors will last longer than others thanks to their higher construction quality and materials. Essentially – you get what you pay for. It’s worth trying to find a middle ground between dead cheap and overly expensive but if you’re really struggling monetarily, a cheap door is still better than no door.
As previously mentioned, there are many different materials you can choose from, each with their own unique aesthetic and practical properties. Perhaps the most common choices for an internal door are timber hardwood and softwood variants. This is because a timber door can look great in almost any house, no matter what the style or design is, they’re also sturdy and durable. The specific type of hardwood or softwood that you go for is entirely down to your personal preference as the differences are normally quite subtle.
After deciding on the material, the next thing you’ll be looking at is the style of the door itself. There’s a variety of styles available and the one that’s best for you is dependent on the design of the rest of your home and the kind of theme you want to focus on.
A flush style door focuses on being largely smooth on the back and front, allowing for a simple, minimalist appearance and design that can work well in many homes.
A stile and rail door is far more intricate than the aforementioned flush style door. They usually have multiple panels and specific designs.
A moulded panel door is similar to a stile and rail door but is differentiated by its method of construction. They’re less customisable as they are made from a pre-determined mould.
