Reddish Joinery were recently asked by a local builder to help complete the construction of a timber orangery in Marple, Stockport.
Reddish Joinery were originally brought into the project by a local builder. The builder that was working on the project had originally contracted a larger national company to complete the job, but this company supplied an incredibly poor quality installation. Needing an exceptionally high quality of installation, the builder contacted Reddish Joinery and asked us to help. As timber orangery specialists, we were more than happy to assist.
The project allowed us scope to think creatively. The customer’s most important requirement was that the timber orangery was to provide as much period character as possible. The Reddish Joinery team of specialists got to work and started to come up with a plan for the project.
Here at Reddish Joinery, we have an excellent working relationship with the North East’s leading architectural timber merchant, Whitmores. We approached them to supply us with the high quality QP1 grade, green oak we needed to complete this project.
The green oak we used provides superb period aesthetics, as well as excellent weatherproofing, thermal and acoustic insulation. Oak is the traditional choice of wood for many historic orangeries, so using green oak on this project to add character made perfect sense to us.
The exterior of the the orangery was clad with Accoya wood for enhanced aesthetics and reduced maintenance overall.
Accoya is a specially treated type of timber that is very durable, resistant to rot and pests and that has a very long lifespan. It is treated through the natural acetylation process, which changes the cell structure of the timber, making it resistant to water.
Accoya wood is very easy to maintain. This makes it the perfect choice for homeowners who need an orangery that is easy to keep in excellent working condition, without too much effort.
The customer was very happy with the result of the orangery, and the builder was incredibly impressed with the standard of our work. It goes to show, that using a local company to complete home improvements can often result in better quality work than that of the national companies!
